Colonies are disinclined to accept virgin queen bees but these cells mimic a queen cell which they are likely to accept. Seal the open end with a tissue thin piece of beeswax. This is made by warming and squeezing a piece of beeswax between the fingers. Introduce a virgin queen bee less than 48 hours old into the cell and close the lid. This has a ventilation hole. The queen will be accepted during the time it takes for her and the workers to remove the beeswax cap.
