The product is used very similarly to the other thymol products on the market. The key points on how to use the product are:
- Place strip on top of frame around the outside of the colony. Number of strips depends on hive type, see infographic.
- Leave 1st application for 3-4 weeks.
- Remove 1st application and replace with second application for a further 3-4 weeks. This gives a 6-8 week treatment period ensuring as many brood cells as possible are open to allow access to Varroa as (unlike formic acid) thymol does not pass through capped cells.
- Remove 2nd application.
Advantages over other thymol products:
- Thymol is formulated in a solid crystal form giving a more gradual release over the treatment period causing less disturbance to the colony.
- Matrix structure of the Thymovar strip prevents bees removing it from the hive, keeping it where it needs to be to do its job.
- Thin strip structure designed to fit on top of frames without the need for additional hive structures (eke).

Vita`s Honeybee Swarm Attractant Wipe comes in a small sachet and resembles a cleansing wipe. It is impregnated with essential oils extracted from plants. To activate, the sachet can be pierced or torn open and hung in an empty hive, skep or other suitable container, or it can be wiped over the surface of the container. This swarm attractant helps to attract passing swarms, and to lure swarms temporarily hanging in trees and other awkward places into a skep or box containing the swarm attractant. It will even reduce the risks of swarms leaving the apiary if a bait hive contains the attractant.

VMD-approved oxalic acid dihydrate powder varroa treatment.
The problem:Honey bee colonies are at constant risk of Varroa mite introduction. Once in a bee hive, this parasite has an ability to rapidly increase its population causing stress to the bee colony and reducing its productivity.
The product:Varroxal is a VMD approved varroa treatment product, with the most flexibility of any varroa treatment product available. The long shelf life and resealable container on this pure oxalic acid dihydrate powder makes it suitable for beekeepers of any size from two to two hundred hives. Varroxal is approved for use in GB for evaporation, water spray and syrup trickle treatments. Varroxal can therefore be used through the year depending on when the bee colonies need treating and the varroa action threshold (typically mite drop of 1 mite per day) is passed.
How to use: Varroxal should be used to treat Varroa mite on broodless colonies. Varroxal can be used as either an evaporation treatment (typically a winter treatment) using any evaporation equipment (for example Varrox vaporiser or Varrox Eddy). Varroxal can be mixed with water and sprayed directly onto colonies (typically during early season inspections) or to swarms during collection. Varroxal can also be mixed with a sugar syrup (syrup made from 1 part water and 1 part sugar) and trickled over the frames of the bee hive (typically a winter treatment).
